Q: What do you need to prepare my taxes?
A: A good start is to provide us with your personal information such as SIN, date of birth, address, phone number, marital status and if you have any dependants. The next thing to consider is all your sources of income.
Since everyone is so unique there is no standard list for everyone. However, the popular slips are all T4, T5, T3 slips.
If you contribute to an RRSP we need your contribution from March 2 to Dec. 31 of tax year and the contributions of the first 60 days in the following year. We can discuss further any other documents you will need as the list can be long
Q: When are personal taxes due?
A: Personal taxes are due every year on April 30th. If you are self-employed they provide a filing date of June 15th. However, if you owe they will start charging interest as of May 1st.
COVID, for example, has changed these filing dates but these have now passed.
Q: Where can I find more tax information?
A: You can find more info at Canada.ca and at CPA Canada.
Q: Can I send in my paperwork rather than do it in person?
A: Yes, you can upload your documents here. It’s completely secure and will go into your file.
